hey - this is a very good initiative - we can all touchbase on a regular basis here.
hi all! hope you remember me as one of the last benchers in class. not because of my lack of interest in studies. i used to be made to sit because i was one of the taller students along with vidyut, govinda and bhanu.
i was amazed to hear from rashmi (cd) a couple of weeks back. then things followed - photographs and this blogspot.
i did recognise you all from the photographs but i am unable to put names to the faces. after minal send me this invite, i could relate to her but not others. my apologies for that.
i am thrilled to know that everybody seems to have settled down in life. and somehow most of us seem to have settled in the usa. arul and i used to exchange phone calls once a while, but we haven't in some time. he used to update me on a few, like sandhya for example.
other than him, i have been in touch with sharan (he is a pilot with air india; flies a boeing 777 to usa & europe; he's married and has a daughter), raja bose (who has been shifting jobs, but the last time i heard he was with dell; he is still a bachelor), kaif (was with the media, then advertisement and now runs a recruitment / hrd co.; he's married and has a daughter) and raja simha (who is settled in seychelles looking after his dad's accounting firm; he's married and has a twin sons).
after school (& puc) i pursued a course in environmental sciences at st. joseph's college. later went and did a pg in environmental management, specialised in wildlife management. then worked in mysore zoo for a couple of years. after my stint in the zoo, i joined this organisation called equations in 1999 and have been here since then. i specialise in sustainable tourism - dealing with negative impacts of tourism on the environment. my work happens at the ecosystem level. i have had the opportunity to work in some of the most beautiful ecosystems of india, especially andaman & nicobar islands, himalayas, western ghats and the northeast. i have recently co-authored a book on ecotourism issues in india, published by cambridge university press. you can google search the tag liyakhat+equations to know more about my work.
i have been married for 5 years now and have three kids. my wife humera is a pg in biochemistry, mysore unv. my eldest son, hamzah, is 4 yrs and studies in sr. montessori. second son hudhaifah is 2 and youngest daughter hanaa is 5 months.
i would like to hear more from you all, and look forward to keeping in touch with you all. hopefully we should get an opportunity to meet when you all make a trip to india next.
warm regards,
syed.
